What To Expect

We are a “liturgical, sacramental church”.

The way we worship comes from traditions that have been passed along for just about 2,000 years. And we call this our “liturgy”, from the Greek word meaning, “the work of the people.” The “liturgy” is the work of the people.

We are also a “sacramental church”. We believe that God uses very mundane, everyday things like water, bread, and wine to remind us over and over again of God’s promise of grace and forgiveness. The promise of God is attached to something we can see and feel and taste. So we practice two sacraments: Baptism, our “adoption” into the family of God; and Communion, our family meal together.

.Worship Times

Sunday morning services are at 9:00 am.

Wednesday night services are at 7:00 pm.

Feel free to come a little early if you want some time to find a seat and take a look around.

Parking and Entrance

The main parking lot is right on Broadway, just two blocks south of Walnut. There is also parking on the south side of the Church across the street on Arndt Street. The main entryway faces Broadway.

As you come in, you’ll find an elevator to your right. At the top of the stairs, the worship space (sanctuary) will be to your left. Restrooms are to the right (down the hallway) and the lounge, for coffee and treats after worship, is just to the right of the entryway. Enjoy your visit and please feel free to ask any friendly looking neighbor if you have any questions or concerns!

Is there a “Dress Code”?

Yes. We definitely prefer that people wear clothes. Other than that, we’re not too picky. In Gods eye’s there is no distinction between a three-piece suit and jeans and a t-shirt. You are more than welcome either way.

Are children welcome?

Yes! Worship is for EVERYONE. Kids are given “activity pages” and crayons as they enter. We also have a special sermon just for kids during worship. You are welcome to bring simple snacks for young children (small bags of cereal, graham crackers, goldfish crackers, etc.) During communion, it is up to parents or guardians to decide if you would like your child to receive the bread and wine or juice. If not, all children are welcome to receive a blessing.

Space set aside in the Sanctuary or a Quiet Area

You are encouraged to bring your little ones into the sanctuary for the worship service. There’s a small table for them to color at or play from. If your little ones need a short break, you are welcome to bring them to the room at the back of the sanctuary. There are large windows and speakers to be able to see and hear the service and some space for little ones to “get some of the wiggle out”.

Communion

“Communion” is what we call our family meal together during worship. And the family that eats together stays together, so we eat together every time we gather for worship! What we believe is that in this tiny gift of bread and wine (or juice!) we receive the fullness of God’s promise of presence and forgiveness. If that’s what you’re after, then you are more than welcome at God’s table.

Instructions for communion are generally given at every service. But in case the pastor forgets, just follow the lead of the person sitting next to you! And we always have gluten-free and non-alcoholic options available. Just let the servers know. If you prefer for whatever reason to not receive communion, you are welcome to come forward with your hands folded to receive a blessing.

Service Sign-In Sheet

If you’d like a visit from the pastor or just want to give feedback about your experience, we’d love to hear from you! Please fill out the sign-in sheet located in the small brown folder at the end of the pew.

What about Sunday School?

Sunday School for ages 3 and up happens right after worship in the sanctuary during the school year.

How long is the service?

Depends on how long-winded the pastor gets. Usually about an hour.

After Worship

Lutherans love to eat together! Just about every week after worship, we gather for coffee and some simple treats together. You are more than welcome to stay for coffee and conversation! Once worship has ended, just follow the crowd out the door! Coffee is outside the entry to the lounge and treats are inside the lounge. There is a basket for donations, but this one’s on us!

About Us

Who is Trinity Lutheran? We are a community of people who have been gathering every week since 1867 to receive new life at God’s table and to be sent out in service to God’s Kingdom.

As we say every week at worship, “We are rooted in Christ, serving on Broadway, planting seeds of faith, hope, and love.

Pr. Rachel is a native of Illinois (the non-Chicago part of the state) but has enjoyed adopting Green Bay as home since coming to Trinity in 2015.

In a previous life, she worked with adults with intellectual disabilities at a L’Arche community in Washington state, where she met her wife, Erin, and she still has a passion for building community and connections.

When not ‘pastoring,’ Pr. Rachel enjoys building rickety furniture and digging holes in the yard that will one day be beautiful gardens.
